FEAR.

Fear.

A powerful tool.

Already many of my peers tell me they don't wanna go to this rally with me, or this meeting, or even go see this movie! I still recall vividly the president of Howard University's student association Byron Stewart hiding from the camera at a silent protest -- turned rally against Laura Bush. They don't even wanna be on my mailing list. Perhaps the articles I send our might be too damning. Reading about how America f*&!s the world might get them in touble, I assmue they assume.

I thought this was the stuff in movies. I never thought I'd see people who I KNOW hiding because they are scared that something they see, or say, now might come back to haunt them.

And by haunt them I mean... people are seriously scared they might wanna run for office one day and have some rally they went to, or statement they give, come back and bite them in the butt. (keith ellison?) Cause politics are really about playing a middle ground, no? You can't really stand too strong for anything if you have a mixed electorate... masses of people are fickle phenomenons afterall.

It amazes me though, people just outta college, or even in college, scared that their summer internships might be compromised now... or that their retirement pension positions might be compromised later...

But I guess when 3 kids end up in Guantanamo Bay (new true story movie on that coming soon) on their way to a wedding... maybe they have reason to be scared.

Like I said this all seems like conspiracy theory right?

But isn't the government really tapping our phones?
"How The NSA Did It" (Salon)

And isn't the government really watching our back accounts?
"U.S. Mines Bank Data As Tool In Terror Fight" (International Herald Tribune)

And aren't they reading your myspace journal?
"NSA Said To Be Eyeing MySpace To Pinpoint Possible Terrorists" (ZD Net)

And did CointelPro really end?

Or did it just go through a metamorphases?

Didn't they just arrest seven young black men in Miami cause they were THINKING and TALKING about what they MIGHT want to do to America?

And wern't these young men somehow related to Black Seperatism?

WHAT! BRIAN YOU'RE TRIPPIN!

Well that's what it sounds like. Here you tell me:

ANDERSON COOPER: As -- as we learned -- you know, it's what you learn in a war, what we learned, certainly, in covering the Iraq war. The early reports often turn out to be, you know, based on the fog of war, or -- or a rush to -- to kind of fill a void of knowledge. And we certainly don't want to make either of those mistakes tonight.

Mike Brooks, formerly with the FBI's joint terrorism task force, also joins us now.

Mike, as you watch this operation unfold, this story develop, what do you make of it?

MIKE BROOKS, CNN LAW ENFORCEMENT ANALYST: Well, Anderson, you know, I find it very interesting.

On June 13, the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, put out a call, an informational bulletin, "Black Separatism a Volatile Movement of Node -- Node of Domestic Radicalization."

You know, I'm hearing from my sources that the seven arrests were made in Florida and here in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, as we know, Atlanta, Georgia, has been a hotbed of black separatist movement for a number of years.

And I find it very interesting that those two cities were involved. But, again, to say that there are 1,000 of these people that are al Qaeda sympathizers, I think that's maybe going out on a limb. Some of these groups that they mentioned in this particular report, Nation of Islam, New Black Panther Party, based in Detroit, the New Black Panther Nation, and Five Percenters, those are the ones that law enforcement right now are basically concerned with.

My sources will not say whether or not, at this point, because it is still sealed, whether or not these seven people had anything to do with any of these groups. And I will be very, very interested in the morning, Anderson, to find out whether or not the -- any of these groups do surface.

So I have to ask, is this ONLY about paranoia?

If you have fear in your arsenal, will you not use it?

Seven black men just got arrested, they had no guns, no rockets, no bombs, no satellite photos, no blueprints, THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE NO BOOTS!

ARE YOU SCARED YET?
