Dwele: Sketches of A Man

So Um... I love me some Dwele! His voice is so melodic. And he writes some beautiful songs. He's just blossoming, you know? Funny because I have this obsession with Raphael Saadiq because he has just personified the mantra: less is more. Take "Anniversary" for instance, pure genius. Who does that? Who takes some real basic vocals (e.g. "Victoria will be no secret at the end of the daaay...its OUR anniversary!") and lays them over such a dope track. With all kinds of break downs and random outros? And if you haven't heard "Skyy Can you feel me?" from Instant Vintage then you missing OUT! That's kind of what I love about Dwele. He keeps the lyrics simple, but he makes them sound so PRETTY! Like on "Baby Come Over" with Hil St. Soul. Splendid vocals, just splendid!

And "Old Lovas"...thats on my wedd'n soundtrack (if EVER!) Okay, so you thanks to sohh.com, you can get your Friday Freebie here (minus a few seconds chopped off, but I'm cool with that!). I find the last track to be the dopest: "Body Rock" with the Mint Condition sample. And dont let me start musing on them Brothers either!! Check out Hil St. Soul's forthcoming Black Rose here.

DWELE!!!
Oh man. He's like a combination of everything I like about Saadiq and Raheem but we just mesh more seamlessly. Maybe it's his voice, like you say (?) ... I don't know, I can't call it. Definitely like how he uses the horns every now and then. It's becoming his motif, somewhat. But "Old Lovas" is my joint ("Weekend Love," "Flapjacks" and "Wake the Baby" too!). Anyway, I just let the little snippets from the Friday Freebie play in the background this morning and I love it. I already have my favorites. Thanks for this, ELL.

I agree, "Seemless"!
I couldnt be that man's woman I swear, I couldn't stay mad EVER!
He'd probably just burst out in song, you know? Humming and whatnot. And that would be IT!
I'd be no good! lmao!
