I went to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 50th anniversary production down here in Atlanta last night. I've been going for the last couple of years, but this year's performance was, by far, the best I've seen out of the company. Alvin Ailey died in 1989 leaving the legacy and vision of his dance company for dancer Judith Jamison to uphold.
He left behind such a large body of work that -- according to Jamison -- it was simple to just pick up and keep going. But no matter how many acts they add to the performance, they always close it out with Ailey's signature one -- "Revelations." "Revelations" has about five parts. The one that I posted (which is from another performance, not the one I just went to last) is in the second part, and it's my favorite one out of them all. If you'd like to see all five parts, you can start here (link).
