Haiti: Ways to Help

© Ivanoh Demers/AP

Here is a list of organizations accepting donations to assist the relief effort for earthquake survivors in Haiti. Also, be sure to follow these tips so you don't get scammed by fake charities. Donate to reputable organizations. I'll update this list as I get more information. And if you know of any more not listed here, please leave them in the comments section.

And finally, give what you can. Even $5 can be a big help, as the current exchange rate between US dollars and Haitian Gourdes is as follows: 1 USD = 40.19 Haitian Gourdes. And if you can't give money (trust, I know times have been rough), keep Haiti in your thoughts, wish its people well, and know that the country has a rich history that needs to be celebrated and put in proper context. That's a lot more than what some charlatans are doing right now in the wake of this disaster.
